Emergency Window Repair and Urgent Glazing
Some faults can sit for a week or two. Others cannot: a cracked or smashed pane, a front door that will not lock, a back door forced in a break-in, or a window stuck open as night falls. Sean Cardwell Windows handles urgent glass, lock and door repairs from our Weston-super-Mare base. We do not promise a fixed response time, because that depends on the day's work and where you are. Call, explain what has happened and Sean will advise how soon he can attend and what you can do in the meantime.

What counts as urgent
Broken glass that leaves a room open to the weather or is a danger to people nearby. An external door that will not lock or close, leaving the house insecure. A door or window damaged in an attempted break-in. A window that cannot be shut, especially at ground level. Each of these affects security or safety, which is why we treat them as a priority when we can. A misted unit or a slightly stiff handle is annoying but can normally be booked as a routine repair instead.
Making things safe while you wait
If glass is broken, keep children and pets away and wear thick gloves if you need to move loose pieces. Do not try to pull out cracked glass still in the frame. Taping across a crack can stop it spreading, and a sheet of board or heavy plastic can keep the weather out. If a door will not lock, keep someone at home where possible or secure it from inside. Where a break-in has happened, contact the police first and take photos before anything is moved, as your insurer may ask for them.
Emergency glass replacement and door locks
Because double glazed units are made to measure, a broken pane is often made safe first and then replaced once the new unit is ready. Our replacement glass units page explains that process. For a door lock that has failed, a damaged cylinder or lock can sometimes be replaced on the spot if a compatible part is available; otherwise the door is secured and the right part ordered. Lock-Repairs and uPVC door repairs cover those faults in more detail.
Avoiding emergencies in the first place
Many urgent call-outs start as small faults that were left. A door that has been getting harder to lock for months may finally refuse on a cold evening; a hinge that has been loosening can let a sash drop suddenly. If you notice a lock becoming stiff, a door catching at the bottom or a crack appearing in a pane, it is worth booking a routine repair before it becomes a problem at an awkward time. Keeping a spare key somewhere sensible and knowing where the inside locks release also helps.
Doors left insecure after a lock failure
If the key snaps in the lock or the mechanism fails with the door shut, do not keep forcing it. Use another entrance if you have one, keep the stuck door closed and tell Sean exactly what happened when you call.

Do you offer a guaranteed response time for urgent repairs?
No. Call and explain the problem, and Sean will tell you honestly how soon he can attend based on his work that day.
Can a broken double glazed unit be replaced straight away?
Units are made to measure, so the opening is usually made safe first and the new unit fitted once it has been made.
What should I do after a break-in damages my door?
Contact the police, photograph the damage for your insurer and avoid moving things until you have, then call about securing the door.
Is a misted window an urgent repair?
Usually not. It does not affect security, so it can be booked as a routine glass unit replacement.
